The Wisconsin Donkey and Mule Society (WDMS) was presented with a generous sponsorship from the Wisconsin State Horse Council (WSHC) on April 18, 2010 during the Midwest Horse Fair. The sponsorship of $750 is to be used to update and add new materials to the WDMS library. The WDMS library is available for use to all members. There are many training and informational books and VHS tapes. Members may check these items out for 30 days by contacting the club librarian, Dian Pinney - email her at star@maqs.net or call at 608-587-2571.

Spring Trail Ride 2010

The Spring Trail Ride was held May 22-23 at Ukarydee in Arkdale, WI and was a great success!! Some of us came early enough on Friday and was able to go on a short ride. Saturday we rode out around 11:00-ish. We had great weather and great company on the trail. After the trail ride some of us had a potluck supper and there was plenty of time to sit around the campfire. Hope to see everyone for the Fall Trail Ride on September 11-12 at Underdown Trails in Merrill, WI.

Early Spring Fun With Donkeys
(and marvelous Molly the mule!)

PRACTICE Before the Midwest Horse Fair we went to Kari Bagley's for some training pointers to work with our donkeys and mules. It was a fun day with hours of fun and lots of good pointers. Rachael and Shania gained lots of confidence which paid off on the trail and during our demo at the Horse Fair. Leslie worked on getting Darla to stand still while mounting and started her bending. The key phrase for the day was "Pull and Release", "Pull and Release" . . .

FIRST TRAIL RIDE We did an early trail ride this spring at Leslie's place. This was Lena's first trail ride and Paris's second trail ride riding by herself on Mizz Izzy. Rachael on Molly was good as ever and Leslie on Darla giving her a nice stress free ride. I rode Louie but saddle issues caused me to walk half the way home (loose saddle and a big hill!).

MIDWEST HORSE FAIR 2010 After practicing in an arena and on the trail, we went to the Midwest Horse Fair and had a great time. We participated in 2 demo rides in the Coliseum.
